Subaru Kicker Tweeter Mod Review For 3rd Gen Tacoma
Introduction
The stock sound system on 2nd/3rd Gen Tacomas leaves a lot to be desired, and even though newer vehicles have better stock sound systems, there is still room for improvement. You don’t need to be an audiophile to recognize the need for an upgrade. Thankfully, there is a cost-effective and straightforward way to upgrade your truck’s audio system that offers a significant improvement – replacing the stock tweeters with Subaru Kicker tweeters.
You may be wondering what this mod entails, where to get the tweeters, if they will fit, and if you need to do any wiring. The Subaru Kicker tweeters are made by Kicker and are designed for Subaru cars but fit without any modifications or wiring into your 3rd Gen Tacoma. They also fit 2nd Gen Tacomas with minimal adjustments, making them a popular audio upgrade for both generations of Tacoma.
Tweeters are the smallest speakers in your vehicle, and they are located at the front corners of the dashboard on both the driver and passenger side. They produce the treble or higher frequency sound waves of the audio you’re listening to. Good treble is essential for a clear and crisp audio experience, and without it, your music can sound screechy and sharp. While you can turn down the treble, it’s not a desirable solution as it eliminates crucial detail in the upper range of the music you’re listening to.
To upgrade your audio system, you need to replace the stock tweeters with Subaru Kicker tweeters. This mod is a simple and cost-effective solution that provides a significant improvement in the audio quality of your Tacoma.

Conclusion
It’s important to keep in mind that everyone has unique hearing abilities and preferences, meaning that results may differ from person to person. Upon starting my Tacoma and playing a song, I immediately observed that the sound was slightly louder than before. Even though the volume was at around 15, the Kicker tweeters sounded louder than the stock tweeters at the same level.
At low volumes, I didn’t notice much of a change in sound quality apart from the increased volume. However, as I turned up the volume, the audio became noticeably more distinct. I began to hear individual instruments and subtle notes in songs that were previously indiscernible. Typically, I tend to turn the treble down on my audio system since my ears are sensitive to high-pitched sounds. However, with the Kicker tweeters, I ended up increasing the treble to normal levels because the audio was coming through much clearer.
After using the Kicker tweeters for a few weeks, I’m thoroughly enjoying the difference they make. One thing to keep in mind is that the sound might be louder in the front of the truck than the rear. You may need to experiment with the sound settings a bit to get it just right for you.
Overall, I would strongly recommend the Kicker tweeters to anyone who is disappointed with the stock sound system on their Tacoma as its a huge improvement.
